Silhouttes, pattern of the mind- By Join the Dots
I watched this play nearly a month back. This was the final presentation as part of a 4 week acting workshop conducted by Join the dots. All actors were those who had attended the acting workshop and had scripted the play themselves. I have been unabashed admirer of the process which JTD follows to evolve their plays. However they seem to have failed rather heavily this time. The play was composed of various parts which was sewn together. But the thread didnt hold and failed to convince most of the audience !!!! But there was the superlative performance by Tracy which probably was the only positive point of the whole play. Well,Tracy is a trained Dramatics teacher after all. A few points to be noted however
1. There was a total disconnect between the various parts of the play. Each looked distinct from the others and somehow it failed to convince the audience that they had a common theme between them.
2. Except for Tracy, the rest of the cast did not have much roles to play or display their talents. It was like they had a couple of lines on and off. There was nothing really substantial for the others.
3. The end of the play was rather unconvincing. Left me and quite a few of the audience rather bewildered. A kind of emptiness prevailed !!!!!
4. The cost of tickets are tooo high. 100 rupees is rather high. I have seen better scripted , longer plays for as less as 20 buck and belive me , in better auditoriums !!! Surely wasnt worth the 100 bucks we paid :(.
There are a couple of plays and festivals you can look forward to in this month January. The first is the play "Witness for the prosecution" at Rangashankara between 12th and 15th. Then there is Rangaayama Theatre Festival by 4th Corner again at Rangashankara.
