Passing away of a legend

Dr.Rajkumar, the unquestioned king of Kannada cinema and an icon of kannadiga’s and Karnataka, passed away on April 12^th 2006. He was 77.

His Family

He leaves behind a family of, 5 crore kannadigas, for whom he will always be annavru. He started his career from the movie called Bedara Kannappa, where he gouges out his eyes for Lord Shiva. He ended his journey on this earth, by donating his eyes to an eye bank. His eyes were successfully transplanted onto people who were visually challenged..

The Man

A simple man with simple tastes, he was known for his humility, his ideals and his love for Kannada. His love for his fans was equally great. He used to address them as “Abhimani Devarugale”. His regular jaunts to MTR to eat his Masala Dosa’s or his love for Coffee laced with Kadlepuri shows that in his heart, he remained a pure and simple soul!!!

Always dressed in a white addapanche and an equally spotless white shirt, he championed the cause of Kannada during the Gokak Agitation. Never the one to mix english words during course of his speech/conversation, he could shame a few scholars with his knowledge of Kannada verses.
