GV Iyer, a memory

Its been a while since GV Iyer, the noted film maker, passed away. To his credits were movies like Shankaracharya, Madhwacharya and other sanskrit movies, which gained him national and international recognition. My minimal interactions with him go back to nearly 20 years i.e when we shifted to our new house on 17th main. I was in my 7th standard then. The interactions were restricted to a broad smile, a namaskara and sometimes a ennappa chennagidhiya :)

Everyday in the morning he used to take a walk to his house through the street that we lived in. It was a walk that took him between the houses of his 2 wives. One wife stayed on 16th main, the other stayed next to the RPC Layout Post Office. Dressed in pristine white, with a flowing beard and a very calm face, one look at him, you would know , he was someone. Another interesting fact was that he walked barefoot. Given that 20 yrs back there was little development, the road was one of Cobble Stones. Even then it was barefoot.

Suddenly he stopped coming on this road, later we came to know he had shifted to his farm somewhere near kengeri. I did not see him after that except for an interview on Television i.e ETV kannada.

May his soul rest in peace.
